Alice M. Burns

Alice M. Burns, age 87, of Pinckneyville, Ill., passed away on Thursday, March 28, 2013 at 9:37 a.m. in her home.

Alice was born on Sept. 2, 1925 in Elkville, Ill., a daughter to Hobert and Vera (Lennan) Burns. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Pinckneyville, Ill. and worked at Kroger's as a cashier for 39 years, starting at the Elkville, Ill. store, then Du Quoin, Ill. store and finally at Pinckneyville, Ill. store. She then went on to work at Chapman and Roe dentist office, retiring after 10 years. Alice was a member of the Retail Clerks Union and taught Sunday school for many years.

Survivors include a two cousins, Tom (Peggy) Dunn of Danville, Ohio and Donna McClurken of Pinckneyville, Ill.; two nieces, Cathy Spiller and Tama (Kevin) Wright; two great nieces, Jill (Denver) Zimmerman and Rebecca Wright and her two children, Logan and Nolan Morgan all of Elkville, Ill.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Jean Spiller; two brothers, Roy Burns and Charles Burns, great-nephew, Will Wright and a cousin, James Kent Dunn.

Funeral services will be held at the First United Methodist Church, Pinckneyville, Ill. on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 10:00 a.m. with Reverend Jim Barnett officiating. Interment will be in Elkville Cemetery, Elkville, Ill.

Friends may call at Pyatt Funeral Home on Monday from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and on Tuesday at the First United Methodist Church from 8:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.

Memorial donations may be made to United Methodist Children's Home, Mt. Vernon, Ill. or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
