OBITUARY: William Barry Hyers

William Barry Hyers, 80, of Harrisburg passed away at 3:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013, at the VA Nursing Home in Marion.

William was born on Sept. 17, 1933, in Saline County to the late Vernon and Edith (Hayden) Hyers. On Oct. 6, 2003, he married LaVerne Weatherington Hale and she survives. He was an Air Force World War II Veteran and a member of the Buena Vista Community Church.

Surviving family members include his wife: LaVerne Hyers of Harrisburg; two sons: William Hyers Jr. and wife Amy of Maple Grove, Minn., and Tim Hyers and wife Pam of Tampa, Fla.; five stepkids: Judy Street and husband Larry, Della Simmons and husband Bob, Vicky Leonburger, Darlene Goolsby and husband Jerry and Michael Hale and wife Lois; several grandchildren; and great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Charles "Kool-Aid" Hyers; and stepson, Ronald Hale.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at Reed Funeral Chapel, in Harrisburg. The Rev G.E. Coultas will officiate. Burial will follow in Walnut Grove Cemetery in Harrisburg. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 28, 2013, at Reed Funeral Chapel.
