HOPE book donation drive aids Carrier Mills library

The Harrisburg Organization of Parent Educators has completed a book donation drive to benefit the Carrier Mills-Stonefort Public Library.

HOPE is a Christian home school support group which was established in 1994 to assist parents who have chosen to home school their children. The group organizes activities, field trips and parent meetings to allow home schooled children to enjoy the fellowship of their peers and to provide planning, information sharing and inspiration for parents.

One of HOPE's Christmas 2013 projects was a book donation drive to gather books for the Carrier Mills library. CMSF public library has no official budget for purchases of books and thus must rely on state grants or donations for new books for the community.

For Christmas this year, HOPE asked about 19 churches in Carrier Mills to solicit their congregations for new or gently used books to donate. HOPE was asking for works of all kinds, with the emphasis on classic literature, encyclopedias, poetry, history, bedtime stories and Christian themed books. As the CMSF library is part of the Shawnee Library System, these donated books will have a positive impact far beyond Carrier Mills-Stonefort.

HOPE was to deliver the books 6 p.m. Monday.
