OBITUARY: Herschel D. "Matt" Matheney

Herschel D. "Matt" Matheney, age 84, of Ridgway but formerly of Herod, died peacefully in Harrisburg Medical Center surrounded by his family.

Matt, as most called him, was born in Harrisburg on Dec. 2, 1929, to the late George and Euna (Robinson) Matheney. He served his country during the Korean Conflict in the Air Force. He was a Mason and was a Past Master. He was retired from Ford Motor Company as an executive. He loved to fish, the outdoors and really enjoyed his computer. His love for his family especially his great-grandchildren always showed through.

Matt is survived by two daughters, Sheree (David) Evans of Harrison, Tenn., and Kelley Barnard of Jefferson City, Mo.; two sons, Steve and Mike Matheney of Shreveport, La.; one sister, Jackie Hicks of Junction; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and great nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; one son, Terry Matheney; two brothers, Eugene and Nova Matheney; and a sister, Audie Albright.

Visitation for Matt will be 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway where Masonic rites will be performed at 6:30 p.m. Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Monday, Jan. 13, 2014, at the funeral home with the Rev. Harold Miller officiating. Interment will follow at the Good Hope Cemetery with military rites.
