OBITUARY: James H. Milligan

James H. Milligan, age 76 of Harrisburg, passed away at 1:01 p.m. Monday, Feb. 3, 2014, at his residence in Harrisburg.

James was born on Feb. 20, 1937, in Cave-In-Rock, to the late Arthur and Ruby (Simmons) Milligan. He married Emma Leonburger and she preceded him in death. He then married Becky Workman on Sept. 26, 1998, and she survives. James was the owner/operator of Milligan's Heating and Cooling. He was a member of the Carrier Mills Masonic Lodge, he served on the board at the Golden Circle. He was a member of Calvary's Promise Church in Shawneetown and was a veteran serving in the Navy.

Surviving family members include his wife: Becky Milligan of Harrisburg; daughter: Linda (Terry) Hancock of Harrisburg; stepdaughter: Melissa Barnett of Harrisburg; stepson: Robbie Martin of Harrisburg; three grandchildren: Cindy (James) Holbrook of Harrisburg, Beth Odum of Harrisburg and Nick (Tabitha) Hancock of Johnston City; four stepgrandchildren: Alex Barnett, Micah Barnett, Mindy Barnett and Hailey Upton-Martin, all of Harrisburg; seven great-grandchildren: Chelsea and Logan Prestenbach, Zoe and Ian Holbrook, all of Harrisburg, Emma and Layna Odum of Harrisburg and Hannah Hancock of West Frankfort; brothers and sisters: Helen Balnis of Chicago, Myretta Mills of Cave-in-Rock, Jackie Milligan of Cave-In-Rock, Thelma Dent of Chicago, Gale (Ada) Milligan of Harrisburg, Jerry Milligan of Harrisburg, Gloria (Tom) Parks of Arizona and Judy (Terry) Whitmires of Virginia.

James was preceded in death by his parents, brothers and sisters: Joe Ray Milligan, Junior Milligan, Billy Milligan and Fay Judge.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 6, 2014, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. The Rev. James "Buddy" Hubbard and Joe Mills will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Garden Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Harrisburg and Carrier Mills American Legion, VFW and the National Guard. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 5, 2014, at Reed Funeral Chapel.
