OBITUARY: Virgil F. Dardeen

Virgil F. Dardeen, 89, Harrisburg, died 4:40 a.m. Wednesday, April 23, 2014, at Harrisburg Medical Center in Harrisburg.

He was born July 14, 1924, in St. Francisville to the late William Franklin Dardeen and Pearl Armstrong Dardeen. He was a railroad bridge inspector and supervisor. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II, serving in the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the Eldorado Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Harrisburg American Legion.

He was the widower of Dorothy Dardeen, who preceded him in death Oct. 1, 2013. He is survived by four sons, Phillip (Iris) Dardeen of Marshall, Denny Dardeen of Muddy, David (Ronda) Dardeen of West Terre Haute, Ind., and Bill Dardeen of Harrisburg; daughter, Pam (Joe) McGuire of Marshall; grandchildren, Quenby Sherrill, Ryan McGuire, Jessica Dardeen, Shaun McGuire, Amanda Stanford, Matt Dardeen, Shawn Magnetti, Josh Dardeen and Ashley Dardeen; and great-grandchildren, Kaylee Sherrill, Nicholas Sherill, Kiernen Dardeen, Logan Griffin, Blake Stanford, Hailey McGuire, Payton McGuire, Hanna Gorrell, Kensley Stanford, Mason McGuire and Preslie Dardeen.

Funeral services are 2 p.m. Friday, April 25, 2014, at Watson Funeral Home. Visitation is noon to service time Friday at the funeral home. Interment will be at Lindale Cemetery at Eldorado with military rites.
