OBITUARY: Charles Betz Jr.

Charles Betz Jr., age 90 of Carrier Mills, passed away at 4:48 p.m. Friday, April 17, 2015, in Harrisburg Medical Center with his wife and family by his side.

He was born on May 17, 1924, in Saline County to the late Charles Sr. and Elizabeth Hazley Betz. He was married to the former Minnie K. (Kate) Thompson on Nov. 9, 1952, and she survives.

Junior, as he was known, was a member of the Carrier Mills First Baptist Church, a retired coal miner and a 50-year member of the IBEW. He was a former member to the Odd Fellow Lodge, and was a happy man when he could work in his garden at home.

He leaves his wife, Kate; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Bill and Martha Betz of Eldorado and David and Brenda Betz of Stonefort; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Donna Clayton and Elizabeth Vaughn.

Funeral Services will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 21, 2015, in the Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills. The Rev. Ryan Beck assisted by Blake Clayton will officiate the service. Burial will be in SunSet Lawn Cemetery in Harrisburg. Friends may call at the funeral home after 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The family prefers memorials to the Carrier Mills First Baptist Church or Hospice of Southern Illinois in lieu of flowers. Envelopes will be available.
