OBITUARY: Edith Henn

Edith Henn, 98, formerly of Galatia and more recently of Westland, Mich., died at 5:17 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 5, 2013, at St. Mary's Hospital in Livonia, Mich.

Mrs. Henn was born on June 13, 1915, in Galatia, a daughter to the late James L. and Reba (Evans) Garner, and spent her formative years there. She married Charles D. Henn on July 14, 1938, in Galatia.

She and her husband moved to Wayne, Mich., in the mid 1940s and then to Westland, Mich., in 1955. Mrs. Henn was employed as a sales clerk at Montgomery Ward for 18 years. Following her husband's retirement in 1974 the couple returned to Galatia. He preceded her in death in 1984, and in 2011 she moved back to Westland, Mich., to be near her son.

She was a member of the Galatia United Methodist Church. On April 6, 1945, she joined the Star Egypt Rebekahs, Lodge No. 273.

She is survived by a son, James Dennis (Mary) Henn of Westland, Mich.; three grandchildren, Michael (Rachael) Henn, Michelle Henn, both of Westland, Mich., and Amber Henn of Marshall, Va., and two great-grandchildren, Ashley and Courtney Henn of Westland, Mich.; a niece, Kay Bearman; and nephew, Bill Irvin, both of Indiana.

Besides her husband, Charles, and parents she was preceded in death by her sister, Juanita Irvin.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2013, with funeral services immediately following at Sloan Funeral Home in Galatia. The Rev. Buddy Peyton, pastor of Galatia United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will follow.

Burial will be in the Webber Campground in Galatia.

In lieu of flowers, the preferred choice of remembrance would be memorials in her memory to the Galatia United Methodist Church.
