Monopoly tournament raises $8,000 for Elks Building Fund

The gladiators of Monopoly showed up Saturday night and battled each other until the clock ended the financial bloodshed.

It was all in good fun at the Southeastern Illinois College Foundation Center and the Harrisburg Elks Lodge moved $8,000 closer to building a new facility in Harrisburg Saturday night.

Jenny Craig, organizer, said, "We had great sponsor participation."

It is the 33rd year the games were played with Elks sponsorship here in Harrisburg. First place was awarded to Randy Barger. Second went to Roger Craig, Jenny's husband and two-time competitor in the Monopoly World Championship.

Craig won the world championship in New York City in 1995 and competed in Monte Carlo in 1996.

But it is Randy Barger who walked away with bragging rights until the next competition in 2015.

Jenny Craig said, "We had a great band, 'Better Days Band,' and they played classic rock until midnight."
