John Gowdy, 96, Carrier Mills

John Gowdy age 96 of Carrier Mills passed away at 5:30am Tuesday November 24, 2015 in the Carrier Mills Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. He was born on June 28, 1919 in White County, Illinois son of the late William and Daisy Weirauch Gowdy. He was first married to Lois Stalling and Lois preceded him in death in 1971. He then married Irene Talley Miller on February 14, 1972 and she survives.

John loved to go to church when he was able to go. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Carrier Mills. John was a retired Farmer.

He is survived by his wife Irene; a son John (Melinda) Gowdy of Carrier Mills; Step son Frank (Diane) Miller of Carrier Mills; Step daughter Beth (Ray) Watson of Harrisburg. 1 Brother Gene Gowdy of Carmi.

Grandchildren: Debbie (Greg) Miller, Johnna Hankins, Amy (Chet) Gibbs of Carrier Mills, Shain (Stacey) Miller, Shawn (Natalie) Miller, Paula Lente and Cindy (Jim) Kohl.

12 great grandchildren and 15 great- great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Lois, Step daughter Zada Ozment, 3 Brothers Charles, Robert,and Kenneth Gowdy and 2 sisters Leona McMullen and Margaret Behleber.

Funeral Services will be held at 11am on Saturday November 28, 2015 at the Absher-Nicholson Funeral Home in Carrier Mills, Rev Harl Cockrum officiating. Burial will be in Salem Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home after 9am on Saturday.

Memorials are suggested to be made to the First United Methodist Church in his memory. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
