Police name boy found in Herrin Park pond

Herrin police have identified the name of boy found in the Herrin Park pond on Saturday.

A diver found Amir Fenner, 4, in the pond about 5:30 p.m. He had been missing for more than two hours. Williamson County Coroner Mike "Junior" Burke pronounced Amir dead about 6 p.m..

Police report that at this time the find no reason to suspect any foul play. An autopsy is scheduled and the investigation has been turned over to the Williamson County Coroner's Office, police said in a press release this afternoon.

Officers received a call about 3:35 p.m. about a missing boy in Herrin Park. Initially, a family member told police that a van was seen leaving the park about the same time that the child turned up.

Police requested an AMBER alert from the Illinois State Police. Soon after, Herrin police found the van and determined the driver had nothing to do with Amir's missing.

All the while, a coordinated effort with numerous law enforcement agencies, fire departments and volunteers searched the park for Amir. The Carterville Fire Department Dive Team also started a search of the pond near the area where Amr child had last been seen.
