OBITUARY: Dorothy Jean Cook
Dorothy Jean Cook, age 79, lifelong Ridgway resident, died peacefully on Sunday, Dec. 14, 2014, in the Heartland Regional Hospital in Marion.
Dorothy was born on April 27, 1935, in Ridgway, to the late Lawrence and Dorothy (Oliver) Davis. She was married to Frank "Teetle" Cox and Leon Cook both now deceased. Dorothy had worked all of her life in many facets, she worked at the Blevins Popcorn Plant for years, was a beautician, set with the elderly and had worked in health care. She loved to read, go camping and family gatherings. Dorothy was a member of the Ridgway Church of God. She was a good wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be missed.
Dorothy is survived by a daughter, Ellen (Lyndal) Sork of Ridgway; three sons, Frank (Lynda) Cox of Carmi, Charles W. Cox and Larry Cook both of Ridgway; five grandchildren, Christie Wood, Peggy (Josh) Prestch, Jason Sork, Gregory (Laura) Sork and Rich (Chris) Cox; and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, Dee (Dora) Davis of South Carolina.
Dorothy was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Risley and Joan Cox.
Visitation for Dorothy will be 10 a.m. to noon Tuesday, Dec. 16, 2014, at the Cox & Son Funeral Home in Ridgway. Funeral service will follow starting at noon on Tuesday at the funeral home. The Rev. Lyndal Sork and the Rev. Jason Sork will officiate and interment will follow in Jackson Cemetery.
