SI Super 10: Red Devils Assert Dominance

The showdown in southern Illinois went Murphysboro's way as the Red Devils extracted some revenge, beating Herrin 41-20 last week in a game that had more than just conference bragging rights on the line.

Murphysboro, the No. 1 team in The Daily Register Southern Illinois Super 10 prep football poll, knocked off No. 2 Herrin as both entered unbeaten through four weeks.

Murphysboro (5-0) was beat twice by the Tigers (4-1) last year, including a post season loss and will host winless West Frankfort.

Marion, No. 2 in this week's poll, will play host to unbeaten Belleville Althoff in a key South Seven matchup, while No. 3 Nashville (5-0) is at Carterville.

Herrin (4-1) which dropped to No. 4 in this week's poll will travel to Massac County, taking on a Patriot ball club that nearly upset a Harrisburg ball club last week that came into the game riding a three-game win streak.

Chester, No. 6, flexed its muscle in a key Black Diamond Conference contest last week, beating previously unbeaten Johnston City 34-21 and are now one of two teams still perfect in league play, joining Eldorado.

Centralia dropped two spots to No. 6 after losing 59-26 to Althoff, while Harrisburg, despite beating Massac County 34-30, dropped one spot to No. 7. Centralia is at Cahokia Friday, while the Bulldogs travel to Benton, a place Harrisburg hasn't won at since 2009.

Eldorado moved into the poll for the first time this year, coming in at No. 8 and host Riverton, while Sparta, No. 9 and Du Quoin, No. 10 round out the poll.
