New tax law a big break for veterans

Property tax exemptions passed into law on Oct. 17 will mean breaks for many homeowners, particularly veterans and the disabled.

The bill signed into law by Gov. Rod Blagojevich creates three property tax exemptions that can be claimed by Illinois residents, including an exemption for returning veterans, disabled veterans and disabled people. Under the law, current homestead and senior citizens' exemptions also will increase.
