SOFTBALL: Nashville hangs on, tops PJHS 16-11
Nashville took advantage of 21 walks and hit batters as well as several defensive miscues by the Junior Lady Panthers to hang on for a 16-11 victory in junior high softball on Monday in Pinckneyville.
The game was competitive throughout with each team scoring in at least five innings, but the Hornettes led from the top of the second throughout the rest of the game after putting up five runs with just one hit - a two-out triple - in their second at-bat.
PJHS got RBIs from Haleigh Kling and Leal Thies in a three-run second inning, and Deja Jenkel and Kenzie Lloyd had back-to-back RBI doubles in the fourth to cut the deficit to 8-6, but the Junior Lady Panthers could never draw back even with Nashville.
Pinckneyville got hits from Kling (1-5, RBI), Jenkel (2-4, RBI, 2B, BB), Lloyd (1-3, RBI, 2B, BB), Adi Foutch (1-4) and Kally Mayo (2-4, BB).
PJHS (1-3) hosts Chester on Tuesday at Greg Hale Field in Pinckneyville.
