Obituary: Lou Jean (Cox) Weaver
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Lou Jean Weaver (nee Cox), 84, of Troy, died Wednesday, Feb. 29, 2012, at St. Louis University Hospital.
She was born Dec. 12, 1927, in Royal Oaks, Mich. to Emmett Cox and Norma Choisser Cox. She grew up in Eldorado in a household headed by her grandmother, Dora Choisser, and including her mother, siblings, aunt Virginia Choisser Brown, and great-grandfather, Ralph Werts. She graduated from Eldorado High School and attended Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. She was very active in music during her youth, singing and playing the flute.
She married James E. Weaver on Nov. 7, 1959. Lou Jean worked at her family's business, Yonaka Jewelry in Edwardsville, for many years. She lived for 25 years in Clinton, where she was a charter member of the "Y Players" theatre group and a member of the library board. She worked at Revere Copper and Brass, Inc. from 1965 to 1986 and was one of the first women in management there. She retired in 1986 to care for her grandchildren. Lou Jean loved interior design and entertaining.
She was preceded in death by her parents; stepfather, Clarence Yonaka; and sister, Dorrie Riggs.
She is survived by her husband; sister, Helen (Lloyd) Crandall of Decatur; two daughters Sherry (Jim) Griffin of Clinton and Julie "Jay" (Doug) Coomer of Fairview Heights; six grandchildren, Brian (Desiree) Peavler of Clinton, Jeremy (Brie) Nelson of Collinsville, Amy E. Nelson of Brooklyn, N.Y., Benjamin Nelson of Los Angeles, Calif., Korinne (Greg) Edwards of Metamora and Karen (Chris) Nix of Carlinville. She had 12 great-grandchildren, Drake, Kayla, Taylor, Chance, Alivia, Carly, Zoe, Maya, Daphne, Brody, Teddy and Mackenzie.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, April 29, 2012, at the Vespasian Wamer Public Library in Clinton. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
