OBITUARY: Edward Allen Cole

Edward Allen Cole, 81 of rural Golconda, passed away on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, at the Metropolis Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Metropolis.

Eddie was born on Jan. 15, 1932, to Wavie Washington and Opal Ruth (Allen) Cole in Harrisburg. He married the love of his life, Vera Imogene "Jean" Choate, on June 10, 1950. Eddie's passion was training thoroughbred racehorses, and together with his family, he ran a successful racing stable for 54 years. He retired in 2005 and enjoyed being home on the farm with his wife and family.

Eddie is survived by his wife, Jean; daughters, Belinda Cole and spouse Peggy Igleheart of Louisville, Ky., Carol Lane and spouse Bart Lane of Golconda, Sue Cole and spouse Candace Ball of Hillsboro, Mo.; grandchildren, Bronwyn (Mark) Aly of Golconda, Ryan (Melanie) Talbert of St. Charles, Mo., Zachary Parker of Golconda; great-grandchildren, Riley Talbert, Ella Aly, Jackson Talbert, Merrick Aly; sisters, Sharon (Paul) Boyd of Bloomfield, Ind., Brenda (Nick) DeLaurentis of Schererville, Ind.; several nephews and nieces.

He was preceded in death by his parents; stepparents, Evenelle Cole and Louis Cobb; brother-in-law, Bill Langley; stepsisters, Dolores Canup and Ramona Reynolds.

Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, at Aly Funeral Home, Eddyville. Interment will follow at Lindale Cemetery in Eldorado. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, at the funeral home.
