Cell records may help to find youths

Cell phone records may help police track down four missing Jasper youths.

Troopers spent much of the weekend searching for Joe Lubberts, 21, David Cady, 17, Tiara O'Dell and Jered Fry, 15.

The four were last seen at about 3 a.m. Saturday at the Canisteo Acorn Mar-ket.

Bath State Police Sgt. Gary White-man said the group drove to the market from a party held on a rural Jasper field Friday night.

Authorities said cell phone records show one of the missing teens made a call Saturday night from the Greenwood area, about 20 miles east of Jasper.

"They went to the Acorn to get something to eat," White-man said. "That's the last time anyone has seen them."

Whiteman said at least two and possibly three of the missing youths have cell phones.

Helicopters flew over the Jasper area Sunday but found no signs of the missing teens.

The search will not be continued today.

Instead police plan to focus on several new leads including cell phone records. The four are believed to be traveling in a silver 2000 Chevy Metro.

State Police have set up a command center at the Jasper-Troupsburg Central School.

"We are interviewing family members and people who were at the party Friday night," Whiteman said. "We're not sure what happened, but we know there are four kids missing, so we're not ruling anything out."

New York State Police, Steuben County Sheriff's Department and several area fire departments are taking part in the search.
