Prep Golf: Still Searching

A River-to-River Conference title will have to be put on hold for another season for the Harrisburg boys' golf team.

Massac County fired an Ohio-best 309 to claim the conference title Tuesday at Hickory Ridge Golf Course, while Benton finished second with a 329.

West Frankfort was third with a 331, while Harrisburg finished fourth after shooting a 333. Murphysboro (360) and Herrin (365) rounded out the scoring.

Ryan Williams, who played in the No. 1 hole for the Bulldogs, finished with an 81 to lead Harrisburg. Williams went out with a 40 after struggling early with a trio of bogeys and went out with a 41.

Ben Fowler shot an 83 after a 44 front 9 and shot a 39 on the back.

Garrett Jenkins went out in 44 and came in with a 40 for an 84 and Patrick Bittle finished with an 85 after an opening 9 42 and came in with a 43.

Bryce Beal (97) and Camden Schiff (101) finished the scoring for the Bulldogs..

On the Mississippi side, Nashville took the title with a 318, while Carterville's Jacob Eklund shot a course best 72 to lead the Lions to a 337.

Pinckneyville and Sparta each shot a 368, while Anna-Jonesboro carded a 380 and Du Quoin finished with a 389.
