Obituary: Hattie Williams Russell
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Hattie Williams Russell, 87, lifelong resident of Ridgway died Friday, April 27, 2012, in the Ridgway Rehabilitation Center.
Hattie was born in Ridgway on April 6, 1925, to the late W. E. "Radio Bill" and Radie (Brown) Smith. Hattie was married in 1946 to the late Adriel "Slick" Williams who preceded her in death in 1990. She married Roy Russell in 1997, who also preceded in her death. Hattie lived on the farm east of Ridgway most of her life where she helped Adriel farm and raised her two sons, who she was so fond of. Hattie also loved to read, garden, cook and be with her family. She was a member of the Ridgway First Baptist Church, the Ridgway and Carmi American Legion Women's Auxiliary. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend and will be missed.
Hattie is survived by two sons, Tom Williams of DeSoto and Terry and Kathy Williams of Ridgway; five grandchildren, Terra (Byron) Farthing, Jeff (Jan) Williams, Jill (Cody) Smith, Ryan (Carrie) Williams and Laura (Bret) Elwood; nine great-grandchildren; and her caretaker, Katina Collins.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Clarence "Smitty" Smith and "Pete" Smith, along with a sister, Ruby Turner.
Visitation for Hattie was from noon to 2 p.m. Monday, April 30, 2012, at the Cox and Son Funeral Home in Ridgway. Funeral for Hattie followed starting at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with the Rev. Mark Allen officiating. Interment was in the Asbury Cemetery near northeast of Ridgway near her home. The family ask in lieu of flowers you may make a donation in her memory to the Asbury or Jackson Cemetery, envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
