Route 4 crash sends four to hospitals

<span>A two-vehicle accident Thursday morning in the 5900 block of Route 4 north of Meadow Drive near the Steeleville T sent multiple people to area hospitals.</span>

<span>According to the accident report released by the Randolph County Sheriff's Office on Friday, a 2004 Chevrolet minivan, driven by 30-year-old Tracy L. Wehrman of Tilden, was traveling southbound on Route 4 when Wehrman attempted to pass another vehicle.</span>

<span>During the attempt, the van collided with a northbound 2000 GMC Sierra, driven by 59-year-old Clyde R. Robertson of Steeleville, with the point of impact stated as 379 feet north of Meadow Drive.</span>

<span>The minivan then traveled an additional 187 feet further south before coming to rest on the west side of the roadway near a utility pole. The pickup spun off into the ditch on the east side of the roadway with its wheels facing northwest.</span>

<span>Wehrman and a 38-year-old passenger in her vehicle, Wolfgang D. Frostmourne (of Coulterville), suffered undisclosed injuries. Wehrman was airlifted to St. Louis University Hospital, while Frostmourne was transported to Sparta Community Hospital via MedStar Ambulance.</span>

<span>Two other passengers in Wehrman's vehicle, 36-year-old Desuray M. Kernan (of Tilden) and 38-year-old William C. Kernan (of Sparta) received minor injuries.</span>

<span>Robertson and a passenger in his vehicle, 64-year-old Linda Robertson (of Steeleville), were both transported to Chester Memorial Hospital.</span>

<span>Wehrman was cited for no valid driver's license and improper passing. The accident was reported at 10:12 a.m. and both lanes of Route 4 were closed for about an hour due to accident reconstruction and cleanup.</span>
