North Easton home leveled in blast

Six people were injured after an explosion at a home on Jenny Lind Street Monday morning, Sept. 10.

Easton Deputy Police Chief Allen Krajcik said four Stonehill students were injured in the blast and two gas company workers were also seriously hurt. Two other students who reside in the home were not there at the time.

Rob Gilbreth, a junior at Stonehill, said he lived in the home with his roommate in one apartment and four other people lived in the other one. Gilbreth said he was at the gym at the time of the explosion, but came back when he heard what happened.

The Rev. Mark Cregan, president of Stonehill College, said he, Gilbreth and another school official were on their way to see the students in the hospital.

"As far as we know they are OK," Cregan said.

Stonehill College's Web site said three of the students would be released from Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton Monday afternoon. The fourth student has been admitted to Brigham and Women's Hospital in Boston. One of the workers was also transported to Good Samaritan and the other was transported to a Boston hospital, Krajcik said. None of the victims' names were available Monday afternoon.

Easton selectmen Chairman Colleen Corona said Cregan already made arrangements for the students to live on campus since the home was completely destroyed.

Both Corona and Krajcik said there has been work ongoing with the gas lines in the Seaver Street area since the spring. Krajcik said workers were using a backhoe in front of the house when the explosion occurred.
