SOFTBALL: Lady Indians slip past A-J, 3-2

Marisa Ferguson struck out ten and didn't allow an earned run and Jordyn Bullar delivered a key RBI triple in the bottom of the fifth inning to help Du Quoin get past Anna-Jonesboro 3-2 at home on Friday afternoon.

"Ferguson threw very well today and Bullar stepped up with a big RBI triple to tie the game, then scored the go ahead run," said DHS head coach Jason James. "We have been working hard on our swings and they are getting better, we just have to keep gaining a little confidence every at bat."

An RBI single by Amanda Atteberry gave Du Quoin a 1-0 lead, but a pair of unearned runs against Ferguson in the second and third inning gave the Lady Wildcats a 2-1 edge.

WIth one out in the bottom of the fifth, the Lady Indians got a single from Mackenzie Jackson in front of the big triple from Bullar, who then scored on Ferguson's ground ball moments later to give DHS the 3-2 lead.

Ferguson made it stand, not allowing another runner past second base. She gave up six hits and a walk with ten Ks in the circle.

Jackson (1-3, R), Bullar (1-2, R, RBI, 3B), Atteberry (1-3), Sydney Lewis (1-3) and Timbra Mansfield (1-3) had hits for the Lady Indians.

Du Quoin (13-14, 4-6) wrapped up conference play at 4-6 with the victory. They'll host Ziegler on Monday and head to Marissa on Friday and Saturday for a tournament.
