Joy Lavelle Gibbs

On August 24, 2016, Joy Lavelle Gibbs; formerly Palmer, passed away at Wabash Christian Retirement Center, in Carmi, Illinois.

Joy was born in Eldorado on October 14, 1943, to Hazel and Louis Palmer, who preceded her in death. She had one sister, Lois Williams, who also preceded her in death.

She is survived by her daughter, Debbie DeArmon (Jeff) of Raleigh, Illinois, nephew Bran-don Williams and children, great niece Ashley Kisner and children, great nephew Kelly Joe Barger and children, great niece Mahala Barger and son.

She was preceded in death by a niece, Kelli Williams and a great great niece Allison Givens.

We would like to thank the Wabash Christian Retirement Center whose dedication to hers and others comfort goes far beyond just doing

their jobs. She was were she wanted to be when she passed away. The family would also like to thank the residents of Wabash who showed so much kindness and com-passion. At this time the family would also like to thank; Hospice of Southern Illinois, Dr. Nathan Oldham and his staff, Jon at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home, and especially Eve with Addis Home Health Care, whom Joy truly loved.

During her time with us, Joy developed a unique and unlikely bond with our bulldog, Zephyr, and a little gold cat who sat on the back of her chair and patted Joy's head as though she were an angel. All the animals miss her, too. Joy faced the end of her life with quiet courage and dignity, worried more about us than she did for herself. She provided an example for all of us to live by. She will be missed by all who knew her and she will be mourned by many now that she has passed.
