CHS volleyball holds year-end awards night
<span>The Chester High School Lady Yellow Jackets volleyball team was honored on Nov. 18 at its year-end banquet.</span>
<span>The CHS roster consisted of 18 players, including 11 members of the varsity squad.</span>
<span>Varsity players were Alyssa Keith, Carlee Weir, Logan Colvis, Haley Middendorf, Hannah Schweizer, Alexis McMath, Lauren Welge, Katie Hoffman, Maddie Hoffman, Morgan Atchison and Tayler Howie.</span>
<span>Junior Varsity players were Emily Atchison, Karson Colvis, Alyse Vasquez, Melissa Crosby, Lexie Price, Caitlin Roberts and Elizabeth Soellner. </span>
<span>"This group of girls has earned praise all season long," Chester coach Chad Koenegstein said. "They are leaders of what was the winningest team in Chester volleyball history, and will continue to lead our program into the future."</span>
<span>The two top awards included the "Most Valuable Player Awards" and juniors Hannah Schweizer and Alyssa Keith were the recipients of these top honors.</span>
<span>Both Schweizer and Keith were selections to the Black Diamond West Division All-Conference team. Schweizer was a first team selection, while Keith was a second team selection.</span>
<span>Schweizer recorded 152 kills, 100 digs, 38 aces, 26 assists and she led the Black Diamond Conference in blocks with 66.</span>
<span>Keith provided 261 sets and 31 kills for the Lady Yellow Jackets, even though she was a setter. She recorded 115 digs, 261 assists, nine blocks and 13 aces.</span>
<span>The "Offensive Player of the Year Award" was earned by junior Alexis McMath. The "Defensive Player of the Year Award" was earned by junior Haley Middendorf and "Rookie of the Year Award" was earned by freshman Carlee Weir.</span>
<span>In discussing the season, it was noted that the team set a record for most victories in a season with 17 wins. </span>
<span>"With our team, being so versatile, especially the award-winners, you never know what roles they will be fulfilling on the team next season," Koenegstein said. "These girls have put in a lot of time to build a volleyball culture and they are succeeding.</span>
<span>"I hope the public is as excited as we are for next year."</span>
<span>With no seniors on this year's squad, the Lady Yellow Jackets have the possibility of returning all 18 players with the addition of some promising newcomers.</span>
