'Trump Train' rallies voters across four counties

SALINE COUNTY - Supporters of President Donald Trump rolled across four counties on Saturday to promote the president's reelection in an event organizers say displayed patriotism in a meaningful way.

Casey Perkins of Harrisburg, who, with Dana Tanner of Harrisburg, organized the rolling procession of Trump supporters said he was pleased with the turnout for the event.

"We had right at 450 vehicles in the Trump Train. I saw Jeeps with people literally on each other's lap. It was ungodly," Perkins, who is a Republican candidate for Saline County Board, said. "And more would have showed up if it was sunny and 80, but we were very happy."

Though some rallies in support of the president have seen conflicts, Saturday's event was not the case, Perkins said.

"We didn't have a single Confederate flag and didn't have any problems whatsoever. That is a blessing," he said. "You'd think if you put that many people together, you might have a problem, but we didn't."

Before the "train" rolled out of the "station" the parking lot of Tractor Supply Inc. in Harrisburg and adjoining parking lots were filled with excited ralliers in their vehicles, he said. Another 150 or so cars waited in the parking lot of Arrowhead Shopping Center.

Perkins thanked TSC for the use of the parking lot and thanked Rural King for donating a pallet of water bottles to hand out to rallygoers. He also thanked law enforcement officers from all counties involved for ensuring the safety of the rally route.

"It was a great turnout and great time," he said.

While Perkins said he knew there were a large number of trucks and cars in the route, he couldn't see much of it. He was leading the parade with an enormous handcrafted U.S. flag display he pulled behind on a trailer. The flag was a hit, he said.

"If I had a dime for every picture of that flag that was taken, I wouldn't have to work for a month," he said.
