Whalen R. "Bob" Holmes, 79, Harrisburg

Whalen R. "Bob" Holmes, 79 of Harrisburg, passed away at 2:10 AM, Tuesday, February 23, 2016 at Harrisburg Medical Center.

Whalen was born on July 25, 1936 in Staten Island, New York to the late Earl C. Holmes, Sr. and Ruth Hackney. He retired in 1999 following a 40 year career in banking, credit and finance. He was a member of the McKinley Avenue Baptist Church.

Whalen was preceded in death by the two women he often said made his life worth living, his wife of 38 years, Katie Raymer Holmes, and the lady that followed her: Miss Kay giving him a second chance at love for an all too short two years. He was also preceded in death by a brother: Brian Holmes on August 9, 2009.

Surviving family members include his daughter: Sue (Frank) Harrison; granddaughter: Mary Kay (Paul) Bohney; great-granddaughter: Kayla Lee Bohney all of Highland, Indiana. He is also survived by a sister: Linda of Jacksonville, Florida; brothers: Earle Holmes of Lancaster, South Carolina, Paul (Jane) Holmes of Dallas, Georgia; numerous nieces and nephews.

Graveside services will be at 10 AM, Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Sunset Lawn Cemetery in Harrisburg. Rev. Billy Dye Jr. will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunset Lawn Cemetery. Military rites will be conducted by the Harrisburg American Legion. There will be no visitation and those wishing to attend the graveside services are asked to gather at the cemetery.
