The Rev. Charles W. Phelps

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[The Rev. Charles W. Phelps, 87, of Eldorado, went to be with the Lord at 6:19 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, at Ferrell Hospital.

He was the widower of Delores (Dunham) Phelps. They were married in 1940.

Charles was born in Eldorado on May 9, 1921, the son of the late James Steven and Ella Maryellen (Shipley) Phelps.

He was a member of Norris City General Baptist Church.

Charles has preached and sung God's word since he was 19 years old. He pastored churches for 64 years. His heart's desire is to see his complete family walking the streets of gold beside him in Heaven.

In addition to his work for the Lord, Charles worked at Western Auto in Eldorado for 18 years and for James Hall Fire and Saftey for 12 years.

Charles is survived by a daughter, Carolyn (the Rev. Bill) Dudley of Eldorado; two sons C. Paul (Betty) Phelps of Harrisburg and the Rev. Carl (Joey) Phelps of Johnston City.

He is also survived by eight grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren.

Charles is also survived by a sister, Beulah Hall of Fairfield.

In addition to his parents and wife, Charles was preceded in death by one brother, J.C. Phelps; six sisters, Fern Medley Wiggins, Florence Cash, Alberta Roberts, Louise Thompson, Norma Taylor, Mary Phelps; one grandchild, Tom McKinnis; and one great-grandchild, Alexis Phelps.

Funeral services at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home at 1 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009, with the Rev. Bill Dudley officiating.

Friends may call 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, 2009, at Colonial Terrace Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer's Association. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
