Mary Lawrence Rice

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Mary Lawrence Rice, 90, of Harrisburg, formerly of Metropolis, passed away at Harrisburg Medical Center on Thursday, Aug. 14, 2008.

She was born on June 26, 1918, in Pope County to the late John H. and Emma (Taylor) Lawrence. On June 28, 1940, she married Alfred Rice and he preceded her in death on March 18, 2003. Mary had previously worked at the Good Luck Glove Factory in Metropolis. She was the last charter member of the Immanuel Baptist Church in Metropolis. She was one of the organizers of the Zion Cemetery Trust Fund.

Surviving family members include a son, Ed (Bea) Rice of Gary, Ind.; daughter, Pat (Marvin) Teckenbrock of Harrisburg; grandchildren, Todd (Dee) Rice of Atlantic Highlands, N.J., Tracie (Earl) Welch of New Lenox, Ben (Marie) Teckenbrock of Mt. Juliet, Tenn., Casey (Krista) Teckenbrock of Herrin and Tory (Ryan) Flaherty of Columbia, Mo.; great-grandchildren, Zachary and Megan Rice, Amanda, Jacob and Rachel Welch, Hannah Teckenbrock, Dylan, Nick and Ally Teckenbrock and Kendall Flaherty.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, four brothers and four sisters.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. The Rev. Scott Johnson will officiate. Burial will be in Zion Cemetery in Ozark. Visitation will be from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 16, 2008, at Reed Funeral Chapel in Harrisburg. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois or Immanuel Baptist Church. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
