Charles Robert 'Bob' Grounds

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Charles Robert "Bob" Grounds, 89, of Harrisburg, died Wednesday, March 11, 2009, at the Carrier Mills Nursing Home.

He was born on Dec. 5, 1919, in Harrisburg to the late Lewis and Lida (Durfee) Grounds. He married Genevieve Clark on Nov. 15, 1941, and she preceded him in death on Dec. 10, 1990. He later married Kathryn Kraft on April 21, 1993, and she preceded him in death on Nov. 10, 2006.

Bob was retired from the SouthEastern Electric Cooperative. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Harrisburg. He was a World War II veteran, serving in the Air Force. He was a member of the Harrisburg Masonic Lodge, joining in 1940; he became a 32nd Degree Mason in 1941, a member of the Ainad Shrine and the VFW.

Survivors include three daughters, Brenda Allen and husband Bill of Mayfield, Ky., Cindy Colby of Eldorado and Jane Sandusky of Harrisburg; sister, Bea Teply of Overland Park, Kan.; two grandchildren, Sherry Aldridge and husband David of Eldorado and Jennifer Allen of Mayfield, Ky.; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren survive.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, March 13, 2009, at Reed Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Chris Winkleman will officiate. Burial will be in Lindale Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday, March 13, 2009, at Reed Funeral Chapel. It was Bob's wish that flowers be omitted and memorials be made to the First Christian Church of Harrisburg or the Shriner's Hospital. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home. Today I left in God's hands the greatest man I ever knew. He loved me from the first time he saw me. Words cannot express the sadness in my heart. I can never remember a time when you were not in my life. As our family grew, so did the love we shared. I know that he is in Heaven now, walking down the streets of gold hand-in-hand with the true love of his life, and I know one day I too will hear the words "Welcome home, my child," and there he will be waiting for open arms as if we have never been apart. I will always love you, and I am a better person for having had you in my life.
