Emma Jean Vancil, formerly of Du Quoin

Jean (Emma Jean) Vancil, 87, passed away Thursday evening, April 28, 2017, in Cordova, Tenn.<br />She was born March 25, 1930, in Sparta, where she was raised. She graduated from Sparta Township High School in June 1946.<br />After marriage to Joseph T. Vancil in November 1948, they moved to Centralia and to St. Louis in 1950. In 1957, they moved to Du Quoin, where she lived until September 2011, when she moved to Memphis, Tenn.<br />Jean worked at Turco Manufacturing in Du Quoin for 33 years. She was involved in numerous church, civic and social groups, activities, and clubs over the years. <br />She enjoyed an active membership at First Presbyterian Church in Du Quoin, where she served in a number of capacities. After moving to Memphis, she became a member at Grace Presbyterian Church.<br />Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph T. Vancil; and her daughter, Carol Jean Vancil, on Oct. 13, 2016.<br />Her father, Ferdinand Falkenheim of Sparta; mother, Emma (Saal) Falkenheim of Sparta; and sister Dorothy Nilsson Hammock of Fort Worth, Texas, also preceded her in death.<br />Jean is survived by two children, Kathy Jo Vancil (spouse Ed Rollberg) of Cordova, Tenn., and Steven Joseph Vancil (spouse Marjorie Phillips) of Broken Arrow, Okla.; three grandchildren, Angela Novak (spouse Sean) of Tulsa, Okla., Sara Brown (spouse Michael) of Cordova, Tenn., and Aaron Joseph Vancil of Broken Arrow, Okla.; six great-grandchildren, Patrick Novak, Asher Novak, Gretchen Novak, Emmarie Novak of Tulsa, Okla., and Addison Brown of Cordova, Tenn.; and three nephews, Nils Nilsson, Eric Nilsson and Bradley Nilsson. <br />A joint memorial service for Jean Vancil and Carol Jean Vancil will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, June 10, 2017, at Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin with Steve Vancil conducting the service.<br />Friends may call from 10 a.m. until the time of service Saturday at Searby Funeral Home in Du Quoin. <br />Burials will be at Sunset Memorial Park in Du Quoin.<br />For additional information or to sign the memorial guest register, please visit www.searbyfuneralhomes.com.
