Oma Opal Baker Fisher
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Oma Opal Baker Fisher, 90, went to be with her Lord on Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010, at Woodlands Convalescent Center, Newburgh, Ind. She fought a battle with Alzheimer's disease for the last several years of her life.
Opal was born to Ed and Bertha in Eldorado in 1920. She was married at an early age to Arch Baker of Eldorado and they had three children, Shirley Porter, Jared Baker and Denise Mueller. Opal and her husband Arch owned and operated businesses in Eldorado for several years, first in the neighborhood grocery business and then operating Baker Furniture Co. in Eldorado. Baker Furniture Co. became one of the premier business in Southern Illinois in the late 1940s and the 1950s.
In 1963, Opal obtained her licensed practical nursing license from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale. She worked as a nurse in hopsitals in Carbondale and Anna for several years. In 1969, Opal married Fred Fisher of Murphysboro. She and Fred enjoyed a good life together, enjoying both fishing and traveling. They lived for a time in Florida, but finished their life together in Murphysboro before Fred died in 1997.
Opal is survived by two daughters, Shirley Porter of Douglas, Wyo., and Denise Mueller of Carterville; a son, Jared Baker (and wife Coradella) of Newburgh, Ind.; two granddaughters, Lisa Benge and Jeannette Hughes, both of Douglas, Wyo.; three grandsons, Pete Lenzini of Carterville, Daniel Lenzini of Mahomet and Zach Smith of Woodstock, Ga.; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff at Woodlands for the kind and thoughtful care of Opal over the eight years she was with them. Special thanks and appreciation to the Aseracare Hospice personnel for the loving care they gave Opal during her final years.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2010, at Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado with the Rev. Harold Hughes officiating, burial following at Lindale Cemetery in Eldorado. Visitation will be for two hours before the time of the funeral.
