SOFTBALL: Crab Orchard snaps EHS's win streak

The Lady Falcons' winning streak was snapped at five games on Friday when visiting Crab Orchard held on for a 6-4 victory in Vergennes. Elverado was held to just five hits after posting double-digit hit totals in each of their last three contests.

"We faced a little bit faster pitcher in (Crab's Brooke) Arnold than we've seen all week and we lacked in our confidence at the plate," said Elverado head coach Donette Wheatley. "They had one big inning putting some hits together to load the bases and then hit a home run. You take that one swing away and we win 4-2. Britani (Prescott) threw a great game and our defense played errorless. It was a tough loss but I'm not disappointed in our effort."

Crab's big inning plus an insurance run in the third led to a 6-1 lead the held until the bottom of the sixth when Elverado tried to fight back.

Baylie McClanahan (double), Paige Newfarmer (RBI single), Britani Prescott (RBI double) and Tori Ehlers (RBI single) each had a hit in the three-run inning, but Arnold got the last four Elverado batters to go down in order.

Prescott allowed six runs on nine hits and a walk with ten strikeouts.

McClanahan (1-3, R, 2B), Newfarmer (1-2, 2 R, RBI, BB), Prescott (2-3, R, RBI, 2B) and Ehlers (1-3, RBI) had EHS's hits.

The Lady Falcons (7-7, 5-0) are at Wayne City on Tuesday.
