Prep Football: Centralia climbs to top spot
The prep football scene in southern Illinois has been an interesting one this season.
The Daily Register/Southern Illinois Super 10 Prep Poll hasn't been any different.
Three different teams - through the course of seven weeks -have been No. 1.
Murphysboro held rank the longest as the Red Devils were No. 1 for four straight weeks, until Harrisburg upended MHS two weeks ago.
Harrisburg, who lost to Herrin last week, dropped out of the top spot and dropped to No. 5.
By virture of a 48-24 win over Mt. Vernon last week, Centralia grabbed the top spot in the final prep poll of the season as many teams conclude their season this week and others will prepare for the first round of the IHSA playoffs.
After Centralia, Murphysboro regrouped and rebounded, hammering Benton 49-14 to come in at No. 2.
The above mentioned Herrin, who snapped Harrisburg's six-game win streak with a 40-21 win grabbed the No. 3 spot.
Marion, who garnered one first place vote, are the No. 4 team and will travel to Springfield Saturday meeting Rich South at Sacred Heart Griffin High School.
After Harrisburg at No. 5, the only real southern Illinois team still unbeaten, Eldorado (8-0) is No. 6. Belleville Althoff is also 8-0.
Carterville, who has caught fire as of late grabbed the No. 7 spot, while Du Quoin, Chester and Nashville round out the top 10 poll.
