Prep Baseball: Enough In The End

Harrisburg opened the 2014 spring season with a win, but it didn't come easily.

Eldorado tried to play the role of spoiler in a cross county showdown Thursday afternoon at Dorris Heights.

The Bulldogs (1-0) built a 9-0 lead through the first three innings, before the Eagles (0-1) looked to mount a comeback.

The Eagles scored a pair of runs in the top of the fourth inning, cutting the Harrisburg lead to 9-2. Harrisburg tacked on a run in the bottom of the fourth to make it 10-2, but the Eagles charged back with a six-run sixth inning to get to within two at 10-8.

Harrisburg dashed any hopes Eldorado had by countering with six runs of their own to preserve the win.

Bulldog starter Sykes Thompson picked up the win on the mound, going 2 innings and allowing no runs on one hit, while striking out three.

Adam Collier picked up the loss as the Eagle starter gave up nine runs (two earned) on six hits, while walking two and striking out one.

Brady Mayer, who was the one of six pitchers used by Jay Thompson Thursday, settled in for win. Mayer went 1 1/3 of inning, allowing a hit and striking out two.

Harrisburg was led in hitting by Cooper Thompson, who finished a 3-for-4 day at the plate with four RBIs and four runs scored.

Nick Davis went 3-for-4 with four RBIs and a run scored, while Ryan Luce went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs and a run scored.

Noah Vallette, Brennan Street, Matthew Phipps, Sykes Thompson and Mayer all had a hit. Mayer scored three times in the lead off position for Harrisburg, while Sykes Thompson and Phipps scored two runs. Street, Vallette and Bryce Emery all scored a run as well.

Harrisburg banged out 13 hits on the day, while Eldorado came away with eight hits as Christian Dalton went 2-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored.

Stanton Hathaway, Braydon VanZant, Drew Woolcott, Adam Ninness and Max Kasiar all had a hit.

Collier, Woolcott and Ninness all drove in two runs for the Eagles, while Kasiar had an RBI and a run scored. Hathaway scored two runs.
