Leo Arthur Hazel
</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Leo Arthur Hazel, 89, of Owensboro, Ky., formerly of Omaha, died Friday, Nov. 6, 2009 at his home.
Leo was born Oct. 30, 1920, in Wayne County to Robert Lee and Molly Pearl (Hawkman) Hazel.
He was preceded in death by three sisters, Faye Elmer, Anna Allen and Dorothy McKittrick; and four brothers, Roy, Ray, Joe and Joy Hazel.
He was married June 12, 1942, in Perry County, Mo., to Hazel Marie Welker.
Leo is survived by his wife of 68 years, Hazel Marie Hazel; and son, Arthur Hazel of Owensboro, Ky.
He was a veteran of World War II and a 60-year member of the Masonic Lodge. He retired from Ashland Oil after 39 years of service. He served as mayor of Omaha. He was also a member of First Presbyterian Church in Owensboro, a lifetime member of U.S. Coast Guard and VFW of Carmi, Omaha Masonic Lodge No. 723 and Rizpah Scottish Rite and Elhasa Shriner Temple of Ashland, Ky.
Visitation is from 11 a.m. until service time at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2009, at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Omaha. Masonic rites by May Lodge No. 718 of Norris City. The Rev. Jonathan Carroll will officiate with burial at Palestine Two Cemetery near Omaha. Military rites by Ridgway American Legion Post No. 596.
