Knoxville High School on lockdown after threat

Knoxville High School was on lockdown Tuesday after a freshman male threatened several other students.

District 202 Superintendent Larry Carlton said a Knoxville police officer also has been stationed at the school.

Carlton said the student threatened several female students, who reported the incident to the school counselor. Principal Mike Kemmer began investigating the incident and discovered the male student had also made a threatening phone call to another male student.

Carlton said the student has been suspended pending further disciplinary action.

Due to the nature of the threats the school will remain on lockdown for "the next several days," Carlton said, and students will not be allowed to mill about outside before school or leave campus for lunch. Carlton said school administrators are also more heavily screening visitors to the building.

"We're not totally sure how volatile the situation could be or could become," Carlton said. "We're taking precautionary measures."
