OBITUARY: Gracie Mae Ellis
Gracie Mae Ellis, 83, of Shawneetown, went to be with the Lord, Wednesday, Sept. 12, 2012.
She was born in Gallatin County on August 26, 1929, to Frank and Alice (Hise) Morten. She was a member of Equality Christian Center. Gracie did several jobs over the years. She was a substitute rural letter carrier for the Shawneetown Post Office, worked as a stock clerk at the Scherrer's IGA and painted and hung wallpaper for people in the area for several years. She loved to cook, sew and grow flowers in her yard. Gracie is the beloved wife of John T. Ellis. They were married Oct. 25, 1947, at the Methodist parsonage in Shawneetown.
She was the loving mother of two daughters, Joyce and Larry Davies of Eldorado and Rhonda and Sam Dillard of Harrisburg. She was "Granny Ellis" to three grandchildren, Kevin and Lisa Pettijohn of Norris City, Kristi and Jon Snapp of Momence and Carrie Dillard of London, Ky. She had one great-granddaughter Hannah Pettijohn of Norris City.
Gracie grew up with four siblings, she being the eldest. She had two brothers, the late Charles Morten of Mesa, Ariz., and Joe F. Morten of Cottage Hills and two sisters, Shirley (Moore) Witt of Lexington, Ky., and the late Theresa Thompson of Wood River.
Visitation for Gracie will be at the Vickery Funeral Chapel in Shawneetown from 5 to 8 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 15, 2012. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 16, 2012, with the Rev. Allen Porter officiating.
