Obituary: Earl Overstreet Jr.

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Earl Overstreet Jr., 80, of 215 S. McKinley Ave., Harrisburg, died at 7:16 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2011, at Herrin Hospital due to a brief illness.

Earl was born on April 16, 1931, in Creal Springs to the late Ethel (Henshaw) and Earl Overstreet Sr.

He was a man of faith and enjoyed sharing the gospel in both word and song. He was known to sing bass in a variety of quartets throughout the region, including the Peacemakers and Glorylanders quartets.

Earl is survived by three children, Jamie (Larry) Rhodes of San Antonio, Texas, Rodney (Colleen) Overstreet of Brighton and Kim (Bobby) Holman of Harrisburg. He was a grandfather to five grandchildren, Mandy, Angela, Brandy, Jennifer and Amy; and a great-grandfather to six great-grandchildren. He is also survived by two brothers, David (Mindy) Overstreet of Iowa City, Iowa, Harry (Cindy) Overstreet of Eldorado and a sister, Dolores Hilgert of Pinellas Park, Fla.; as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dana (Miller); his beloved daughter, Dana Kelly Overstreet; his dear brother, Gene Overstreet and his wife, Peggy; along with his friend and brother-in-law, Vern Hilgert.

He will be missed by family and friends, including his long time friend, Lavern Underwood.

Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills is assisting the family with arrangements. Per Earl&#39;s request, there will be no formal funeral or visitation. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Jude&#39;s Children&#39;s Hospital and may be mailed to the funeral home or directly to the hospital.
