GIRLS BASKETBALL: Lady Panthers pounded by Carterville
Carterville outscored Pinckneyville 18-4 in the first quarter and continued to pour it on the Lady Panthers as the game went on, as the Lady Lions picked up a 58-26 conference win on Tuesday night.
The Lady Panthers managed just 10 points in the entire first half, 16 through three quarters. No Pinckneyville player scored more than 6 points.
"We just flat did not compete tonight," said PCHS head coach Alan Engelhardt. "Lazy passes, constantly getting beat down the floor, and giving up constant layups. Carterville came out ready to play and we didn't. We have to have a good practice tomorrow and get ready for Thursday night's game."
Sophie Keith and Caitlyn Anderson led Pinckneyville with 6 points apiece, Mayci Doerflein had 5, Kiya Hagene, Raygan Yates, Mariah Clark and Gabby Bartnicki each had 2, and Megan Breslin had 1.
Avery English led the Lady Lions with a game-high 17 points.
