Artful start to 2016: Kids Club, exhibits, events at Libray of Arts
A painting party Monday at the Du Quoin Library of Arts on South Division Street in Du Quoin began the new year and the interest in what goes on at the center continues to grow, according to one of the founders, Paula Day.
Five attended the first painting event of the year, but Day says the center has captured the interest of amateur painters across Southern Illinois, who are coming to Du Quoin to participate.
This coming Monday local artist Joyce Elledge will host a painting event called "The Sky is the Limit." That session begins at 6 p.m.
Day said the center will host a Kids Club starting this Thursday, January 7 at 6 p.m. The cost is $15,
"We have ben asked to do this and we are going to try it for a month and see how it goes," says Day.
The suggested age is 6 and older. Children will be exposed to a variety of artful activities.
The Library of Arts is currently hosting an exhibit by local artists Dixie and Don Lewis. The exhibit is on display now through April. An open house and reception will be held on Saturday, Jan. 16 from 3-6 p.m.
Paula's Day's work is currently on display at the Long Branch at 100 East Jackson St. in Carbondale from now through Feb. 7.
The Library of Arts is a gallery and arts activity center located in the old library building at 6 South Washington Street in the heart of historic downtown Du Quoin.
