More local COVID-19 cases, as state reports record single-day number

ELDORADO - Numbers of local COVID-19 cases continue to increase in Saline, Gallatin and White counties as Illinois recorded its highest single-day number of COVID-19 cases reported.

Illinois reported 4,942 positive COVID-19 cases Thursday. While Illinois Department of Public Health shows 5,538 reported on Sept. 4, 2020, that number came from a three-day period. Delays in the state's reporting mechanism recorded all of the Sept. 4 cases as being on a single day.

Thursday also is the start of Gov. JB Pritzker's COVID-19 mitigation rules for Region 5, which includes most counties in southern Illinois. While dining in at restaurants and bars are supposed to be prohibited in the mitigation measures, many bar and restaurant owners have declared, at least on social media, that they will not stop dine-in service. It is unclear what mechanism the state plans to use if businesses do not follow Pritzker's order.

Thursday's numbers were not available by press time from Egyptian Health Department, but in Wednesday's report, EHD said two more White County residents have died from complications due to the disease.

Wednesday's report from EHD include:
