SOFTBALL: PJHS scores first victory, beats Okawville 23-9

Pinckneyville Junior High School's girls softball team picked up their first win of the season on Tuesday at Okawville, winning 23-9 in a six-inning short-game.

Deja Jenkel (double) and Kenzie Lloyd (single) provided RBI hits for the Junior Lady Panthers in the top of the first inning, but Okawville was able to one-up PJHS with three runs in the bottom half - all of which were unearned thanks to errors.

Adi Foutch produced a run on a sacrifice fly in the top of the second, and Haleigh Kling and Kally Mayo both singled with two outs to help put PJHS back on top 5-3.

Okawville responded again, however, scoring their fourth run in the bottom of the second while still not recording a single hit.

A leadoff double by Lloyd sparked another two-run rally for Pinckneyville in the third with Payton Morgan and Foutch delivering RBI singles, and Mayo singled and scored in the fourth to give PJHS an 8-5 lead.

The major damage came in the top of the fifth when three consecutive errors by Okawville started a disastrous inning for the home team. Jenkel followed with a two-run triple and Lloyd, Chey Lynch and Foutch all added RBI hits in what turned into a seven-run frame for the Lady Panthers.

Foutch (3-5, 5 RBI), Mayo (2-5, RBI), Jenkel (3-5, 3 RBI, 2B, 3B, BB) and Lloyd (3-5, 2 RBI, 2B, BB) each had multi-hit games for Pinckneyville. Kling and Addie Waggoner handled the pitching duties for PJHS.

The Junior Lady Panthers (1-2) are at home for the first time on Wednesday against Herrin.
