Steeleville boys advance to consolation championship

<span>After a first-round loss to unseeded Vienna, the Steeleville boys advanced to the Sesser-Valier Holiday Tournament consolation championship with a win over Century on Tuesday.</span>

<span>"These last two games, we've gotten to get everybody some minutes and at some point we're going to have to get some balanced scoring besides Nic," said Steeleville coach Bryce Bainter. "It's good for some of these other kids to get some experience."</span>

<span>Steeleville (7-4) is scheduled to play the winner of Zeigler-Royalton and Thompsonville.</span>

Vienna 60, S'ville 47

<span>On the tournament's opening day on Saturday, Steeleville fell behind 22-11 after the first quarter in a loss to Vienna.</span>

<span>Nic Hagel led the Warriors with 17 points, while Dusty Sutton, Trey Lazenby and R.J. Smith all contributed eight points in the loss.</span>

<span>Vienna was led by a combined 37 points from Zachryn Moore and Brandon Casey. The Eagles led 30-20 at halftime and took a 47-40 advantage into the fourth after Steeleville rallied with a 20-point third quarter.</span>

<span>Vienna then outscored the Warriors 13-7 in the fourth.</span>

Steeleville 71, Odin 42

<span>Nic Hagel scored 28 points and Steeleville built a 37-21 lead at halftime in a win over Odin.</span>

<span>R.J. Smith and Andrew Grafton combined for 17 points for the Warriors, who held a 60-37 lead after three quarters.</span>

Steeleville 87, Century 43

<span>Nic Hagel scored 19 points and Andrew Grafton added 13 points to help Steeleville advance to the consolation championship with a win over Century on Tuesday.</span>

<span>Ten Warriors scored at least four points in the victory, which saw Steeleville take a 47-18 lead at halftime.</span>
