OBITUARY: Shirley Ann "Vessel" Horton
Shirley Ann "Vessel" Horton, 73 of Eldorado, died Tuesday, Sept. 30, 2014, in Eldorado.
She was born in Eldorado on July 20, 1941, to the late John "Bud" Vessel and Anna Mable (Carnahan) Vessel Bradley.
Shirley worked 20 years at the Hat Factory in Harrisburg, 15 years as a cosmetologist at her home doing hair and she retired to take care of her husband. She soon found a passion for machine quilting which she still loved doing the last year of her life. Each of us has felt the warmth and love of her heart and hands with the gifts she gave, being a quilt of your own.
On Nov. 4, 1956, she married Norbit M. Horton and he survives in Eldorado. Also surviving are two children, Tom Lee (Sandy) Horton of Norris City and Tammy Lynn (Horton) (Gary) Brown of Galatia. Also surviving are five grandchildren: Thomas (Amy) Horton, Tonya (Richard) Cobb, Stephen Brown, Whitney Brown and Victoria Brown. She is survived by five great-grandchildren: Lacey Cobb, Richard Cobb, Dilin Horton, Madison Wilson and Hannah Wilson. Also surviving is a brother Jim Vessel and a sister Brenda (Ronnie) Austin. Also surviving are sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Wanda (Jim) Potts, Loretta (Billy Jo) Crunk, Clyde Howard, Brenda (Tom) Cowsert, Sue (Bill) Fryer, Linda (Ron) Towery, Sondra Bethel, Dora (Richard) Trail, Lavern Childress and Nada Malone. She is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by three brothers, Buddy, Jackie and Johnny Vessel. She was preceded in death by seven brothers-in-law: Charles Malone, Chick Maxfield, Tom Putman, Steve Martin, Jack Bethel, Doug Childress, Carlos Horton; a niece: Tresa Lee Stennett Bynum; two sisters-in-law: Penelope Vessel and Jessie May Vessel; and two nephews: Richard Dale Tail and Doug Childress Jr. She was also preceded in death by her in-laws Norbit and Vernice Horton and Louis Bradley.
Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014, at the Watson Funeral Home with Pastor Nathan Chitwood officiating. Burial will be in Wolf Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 4, 2014, at the funeral home from 10 a.m. until the service time of 1 p.m.
