Carrier Mills Police ready for Halloween giveaway

The Carrier Mills Police Department is all set for the Kids Safety Halloween Giveaway.

For a number of years the Police Department in conjunction with the village Fire Department provide free glow sticks and plastic pumpkin containers for the kids to carry their Halloween goodies in. This year, the department has raised over $400 for the kids safety goodies.

"This is about the community caring about the children's safety," said Sgt. Bill Duncan, village public information officer. "This year, Chief Rubright got out there and put in an extra effort in soliciting donations. Our citizens and businesses cared enough to donate generously despite these tough economic times. The department really appreciates their help."

The annual tradition sees kids gather at the village municipal building parking lot and begin their candy quest there. After receiving their glow sticks and pumpkins from the police department, the kids get treats and goodies from the fire department and then make the rounds of the kind citizens and organizations that ring the parking lot, ready with more treats for the children.

"It takes a village to raise a child and that's the fact of it," Chief Rubright said. "It takes all of us to care about the children's safety and the whole community contributes to their upbringing."

Halloween in Carrier Mills will be celebrated 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Oct. 31. Streets are usually crowded so visitors and Trick or Treaters are urged to be careful and have a safe and happy Halloween.
