Harry Riddle

Harry Riddle, Stanwood WA (Rockwood, Ill.) passed at home on Sunday, March 8, 2015, into the loving arms of his mother, Evelyn Riddle, and his son Dan Riddle, with two or his five grandchildren, Dawn Adams and Creighton Adams, at his side.

Harry Riddle fought the gallant battle of Stage 4 pancreatic/lung cancer for over three years, working in his beautiful gardens until the end.

Harry served honorably in the Navy medical corp for over 20 years, two isolation duty stations, one Vietnam.

An excellent provider, he raised four children as a single parent, often working two jobs to pay the bills.

Harry is survived by three of his four children, Sherald Riddle, Cynthia Riddle-Anderson, and Harry Riddle.

As a young man in the military and the second born of 11 children, Harry sent money home to help care for his two parents and nine remaining siblings living in a two-bedroom farmhouse that had no indoor plumbing in Rockwood, Ill.

Always foremost in his mind was to do the best he could to help those in need, carrying the debt on his shoulders to provide.

Leaving his widow Linda, with two additional monthly retirement funds and medical for life; what a thoughtful, caring man!

Through hard work and perseverance, Harry raised himself from the bowels of poverty. Taken out of school after the eighth grade to work the family farm, at age 17, Harry joined the Navy and studied after work to obtain his high school diploma.

Harry truly knew the meaning of hard work to achieve his goals. Our father was a Titan among us all!

Harry loved to study history, reading many books and visiting many of the battle sites that brought about the freedoms our country has traditionally valued.

He would often ask himself while at the battle sites, "What life must have been like for the men fighting and dying for our freedoms!"

The one wish our father had was to have a loving and caring family. And although our mother and father had their differences, our mother, Suzanne, insisted on Harry Riddle to be honored as the man he was, a caring, hard working, patriotic American and father.
