OBITUARY: Helen L. Grubbs
Helen L. Grubbs, 88, of Eldorado, died Sunday, Jan. 12, 2014, in Mt. Carmel.
She was born in Wasson on Oct. 28, 1925, to the late Logan and Mary E. (Johnson) Grimes. She was co-owner of Skate Land roller skating rink in Eldorado for many years. She was a member of the Wasson Missionary Baptist Church and was a born again Christian being saved at an early age. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and a friend to all who knew her. She enjoyed attending church, spending time with her children and grandchildren and great grandchildren, as they were her greatest joy.
On Aug. 5, 1944, she married Robert "Bob" Grubbs and he preceded her in death on Oct. 5, 1999.
Helen is survived by her two children, Robert Harvey (Dianne) Grubbs of Eldorado and Evelyn (Dr. Larry) Jennings of Mt. Carmel. Also surviving are six grandchildren: Jeff (Ericka) Grubbs of Carbondale, Julie (Tom) Fromm of Ridgway, Jill (Brian) Bennett of Harrisburg, Dr. Kate (Jake) Lindley of St. Louis, Mo., Dr. Valerie (and her fiance Oscar Rivera) Jennings of Chicago and Emily (Mark) Underwood of Chicago. She is also survived by 11 great-grandchildren, two great-stepgrandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Jesse Grimes.
Funeral services for Helen will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 17, 2014, at the Watson Funeral Home in Eldorado with the Rev. Gary Underwood and the Rev. Roger Marvel officiating. Burial will be in Wolf Creek Cemetery. Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014, at the funeral home. For those who desire memorial contributions may be made to Wolf Creek Cemetery or the donor's favorite charity in her memory and may be left at the funeral home.
