OBITUARY: Robert E. "Bob" Rogers
Robert E. "Bob" Rogers, 79, of Granite City, passed away 8:19 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 25, 2012, at John Cochran Veterans Hospital in St. Louis.
He was born February 18, 1933, in Saline County, a son of the late Nolan G. and Ellen Elizabeth (Martine) Rogers. His childhood years were spent in Raleigh, where he was proud to be a "Raleigh Boy" and had attended the Raleigh Baptist Church. He married Sue E. (Oliver) Rogers May 18, 1991, in Granite City and she survives. He was a retired barber and was the owner and operator of Bob's Barber Shop in Madison for 50 years. The United States Army veteran proudly served his country during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the Granite City V.F.W. Bob was instrumental in establishing the Madison Explorers Post, was a past president of the Madison Lions Club and the former Barbers Union, and had served as the commissioner of the Madison Khoury League. He enjoyed his days of shooting pool in area leagues and will be remembered for the love and special times shared with his family and friends.
In addition to his beloved wife, he is survived by four children, Anita Jo (Tony) Strieunoski, Dan Rogers (Boyce Clark), Ellen (Denny) Sipes and Nolan Rogers, all of Granite City; nine grandchildren, Kelly, Kerry, Clay, Carly, Mary Kate, Corina, Suzanne, Ashley and Drake; 13 great-grandchildren; one sister, Emma Lou Adams of DeKalb; one brother, Glen (Sandy) Rogers of Godfrey; his beloved dog, Bam; along with other extended family and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Bobby Rogers; one granddaughter, Pebbles Rogers; and his former wife, Betty (Whitlock) Rogers.
In celebration of his life, visitation will be at Irwin Chapel, 3960 Maryville Road in Granite City, from 4 p.m. until time of funeral service at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 28, 2012, with the Rev. John Gamblin officiating. Visitation will continue at Watson Funeral Home, 1517 Locust in Eldorado, from 11 a.m. until time of funeral service at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 29, 2012.
