Obituary: Paul Abney

</element><element id="paragraph-1" type="body"><![CDATA[Paul Abney, 88, of 147 Karen Ann Lane, Carrier Mills, died at 2:11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 26, 2011, at Harrisburg Medical Center in Harrisburg.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, at Felty Funeral Home in Carrier Mills. Visitation will be held 11 a.m. to service time Monday. The Rev Mike Hood will officiate. Burial will be at Memory Gardens Cemetery in Benton, Ky.; graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 1, 2011. All friends and family should meet at the cemetery. Filbrck-Cann and King Funeral Home in Benton, Ky., will be assisting the family with burial.

He was born on Sept. 3, 1922, in Raleigh to the late Harry and Prudence (Choosier) Abney.

He married Opal Hubbs on June 10, 1986, and she survives.

Paul was a Navy veteran serving in World War II.

He was a retired coal miner; he also was a handyman, truck driver, and worked as a policeman in Harrisburg.

He is survived by his wife, Opal Abney of Carrier Mills; son, David Paul Abney of Downey, Calif.,; daughter, Nancy Lynn Johnson of Long Beach, Calif.; stepchildren, Nina Clark of Paducah, Ky., Frankie Jones of Marion, Lisa Henderson of Gilbertsville, Ky., Bonnie Ross of Colorado Springs, Colo. and Michael Jones of Calvert City, Ky.; sister, Maxine "Mickey" Irvin of Louisville, Ky.; 19 grandchildren; and 14 great-grandchildren.
